No, you misunderstand. I don't necessarily hate farming, I do it myself sometimes, it can be mindlessly entertaining. No, I hate the farmers.
The reason I do is because farmers always whine. Every single change, ever, is met by whines from farmers. And if there are no changes, the farmers whine about that. If the drops are good, the farmers whine about that the economy getting destroyed (which is code for "they making less money"). If the drops are bad, the farmers whine about how poor they are. If the game is made easy, they whine about how everyone now can get the obsidian armor they spent several hours grinding for. If the game is made hard they whine about how they are now unable to grind an obsidian armors worth of cash in hours.
Whine, whine, whine, whine. Incessantly.
I also hate them because everything that's bad about GW - like PvE skills and elite areas - are direct results of the incessant whining of uber-farmers. Seriously though this debate is getting to be a joke. People will find simplified ways to type things because it makes the hassle of quick conversation in outposts, or while in an area fighting mobs... easier. It allows the game and conversations to flow faster. Sorry but there's no way I'm going to write an essay while I'm being whacked by level 20+ mobs. I'll get my message across as quickly as possible for the benefit of myself and my party, as long as you can understand it that's all that is important.

actually, given the high level of illiteracy in high school graduates in the states, i would expect anyone who was passably good with the language to be proud of their ability to converse intelligently.
i admit - i am one of those who cannot stand "leetspeak" or "textspeak". to me it's a sign of one of a few options. 1) you don't care enough to make yourself understandable. 2) you really are retarded, and don't know any better, 3) possibly you lost a number of fingers and can no longer type.
of the 3 choices, only one would i have any sympathy for. as it goes, nobody who uses any gross perversion of the language is welcome in my guild. lack of communication abilities get you a permanent invitation to the world.
and, in defense of this stance (not that i need to, but i feel compelled to) the first thing anyone says to me online is likely to be my first impression of you. if you give the impression of a microcephallic idiot, there's a good chance i won't want to interract with you at all.

This thread has gotten really long.
It's been said many times already, and probably the people that need to read this suggestion don't even visit the forums, but here it is anyhow: if you are desperately looking for a group, type out your words completely.
We were doing some mission (think it was gate of pain) in nightfall recently and someone was desperately wanting to join a group for the mission. We thought about taking him but decided against it because of the way he asked. "add me 2 ur grp"
Why? It's not that we are obsessed with grammar, its that we didn't want to have to do the mission over because someone we didn't know messed it up for us by being impatient. Anything that indicates some one is impatient is a red flag to not take them.

Seems to me some people are just too stuck up for their own good to judge someone else over they way they type in a videogame. As you can see I can type perfectly well but as already pointed out, which you seemed to just ignore completely, it's sometimes the speed of the conversation in local, or the situation on the battlefield (if you're not using voice chat of some sort ie: pugs), that forces people (including myself) to type shortened text. Not everyone can type 100 words per minute on a keyboard, but then I guess people like you expect others to be able to do that just to converse with you.
Whatever makes you happy in your new form of elitist world you make for yourself I guess.

Grammar Nazis are annoying. Granted, people who use "leetspeak" nonstop, and replace words with numbers can be aggrivating. But those that make it a point to correct every spelling mistake, every punctuation error...they just go too far.

People don't use it for speed - unless they're somehow playing GW on a cellphone - they use it because they think it's kewl.

Agreed. I bet they're most likely the sorts of people who type out "Laugh out loud" instead of "Lol".
And yes I have seen some sad f***r do that, lol.

WTF, LOL, WTB, WTS, GTFO, STFU, NP, KK , BB, QQ, IMO, GG
I agree on whole sentences like what you just posted which would take longer to type than a shortened sentence would for speed benefits anyway, they are annoying, but complaining about the odd use of short typing or mistaken spelling is f*****g ridiculous in my opinion.

People who I hate most... well here's a good example.
I was running a mission for someone in HM (a warrior in black obsidian armor, tormented shield and a fellblade no less, he could have probably done it himself with ease). I asked a mere 2k for this run. I'd done this before lots of times and everybody who has accepted the service paid in full, and showed gratitude.
But this man? As soon as I finished, he left. Didn't pay. Alls I asked was 2k. Probably appeared offline and added me to his ignore list afterwards too.
It's people like that who get on my rag.

hmm the people I dislike are those who fall under these catagories:
-People who show off *those next 2 catagories can also go under this, they are just specific*
-People who spam /rank with bambi, wolf, and tiger in PvE, especially in pre
-People who think they are all that bcause they have FoW armor dyed black *usually with chaos gloves and a bandana/ninja mask*
-People who act big after winning an PvP match, especially AB*which is why I'm done with that cept through event matches*
-People who complain after being beaen in a PvP match *don't wanna fall under this or the above mentioned for PvP? just say gg not "omfg! Haxor!" or "damn noob team!"*
-Scammers
-People with too much money that complain about no storage space for their cash *try giving some away or buying stuff, that'll reduce it*
-People who don't know what to do in groups even though they are told several times over*which is why I only h/h or group with friends/guildies*
-That person who I do not know who takes my character names ideas *especially the really random names I put a lot of thought into to try to get a name that isn't taken*
I think I'm done...for now.

Ever thought that some people who just simply hate PvE go to riverside to rip on them and make it seem like PvErs are jerks? Also, I've seen more people in PvP in the game that are jerks then people in PvE that are jerks. Can't settle things with stuff like forums, only a small fraction *usually those who like to complain about everything* are on forums.

However, making judgements and discriminating are completely separate issues. Personally, I find it silly to simply omit vowels for speed and I prefer to type "you" instead of "u". However, I have many friends in game who do such things, and even if it were someone I didn't know and was just blabbering in All chat, I don't base my judgement concerning that person's intelligence on the orthographic representation of their discourse.
I find your example a little extreme, although I understand what you are saying. I was thinking a little more along the lines of a word like 'totally', as in "That's totally cool." You could say this to a friend, but you wouldn't say to an interviewer, "You should totally hire me" because of the sociolinguistic expectations of that particular setting. It would, on the other hand, be quite acceptable, at least in North American culture, to say something like, "I would very much like to work for your company and I hope you consider me as an acceptable candidate for employment." (Well, that may be somewhat verbose, but you get my drift.)
There's not a school of thought that I follow in particular, but as you describe, I definitely consider myself one of the more open-minded linguists. I'm not sure if I would classify AAVE as its own language (as it is heavily based on English), but I definitely do consider it a full-fledged dialect of English, with its own set of (albeit similar) syntactic and grammatical rules. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on the whole "bastardization" issue, as I simply see it as the evolution of language. The fact that language tends to converge towards simplicity (such as using 'to' for both 'to' and 'too') has been attested to in a wide variety of languages. It may seem wrong at first, but the more people that use it, the more accepted it becomes.
I admit, I do cringe when I see 'your' used for 'you're' in an official or professional publication, but I find it more interesting than anything when I see someone, who would otherwise be considered as perfectly literate and a follower of prescribed grammatical conventions, make that very mistake.

Good points to consider.

like the retards that say "OMG the government is ruining our lives and spying on EVERYTHING we do!!!!! WHERES MY HELMET TO STOP THEIR MIND CONTROL POWERS!!"
Most PvPers played/still play PvE hence why a majority of them are running around in PvE only attainable stuff (armors or weapons). but the farmers need to try to make their irrational arguments somewhat intelligent. Although they fail miserably at it.
